Applications Open for WASH Entrepreneurial Training Programme

The Rand Water Foundation (RWF) in partnership with the National Empowerment Fund (NEF) is inviting eligible youth-owned small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to apply for the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Entrepreneurial Training Programme.

The programme is designed to strengthen entrepreneurship in the water and sanitation sector while creating opportunities for young business owners to participate meaningfully in infrastructure projects and related services.

Building on the success of a recent webinar that attracted strong engagement from aspiring entrepreneurs, the initiative now moves into its next phase, where qualifying businesses can submit applications for consideration.

About the Programme

The Entrepreneurial Training Programme supports the development of SMEs operating within or aspiring to enter the water and sanitation sector. It focuses on creating sustainable businesses that can contribute to improved sanitation, water quality, and hygiene practices across communities.

Participants will benefit from:

  • Skills development for long-term business growth

The programme also seeks to develop competitive, investment-ready suppliers while promoting economic inclusion and enterprise growth.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old, or persons living with disabilities
  • Own or operate an SME, or aspire to start a business in the water and sanitation sector
  • Have no criminal record
  • Be based in rural or semi-urban areas within Gauteng

Required Application Documents

Interested applicants must submit the following:

  • Business profile
  • Business plan or proposal
  • Valid business registration certificate or proof of registration
  • Tax clearance certificate
  • Stamped bank confirmation letter
  • Management accounts (income and expenditure), where available
